Just got word from a new friend in Slovakia that he'd been on the national radio and spoke of our Boutique Empire label and played a Combine the Victorious
song on air. Apparently it even generated some favorable comments from
listeners and there is a chance it will be added to the playlist next
month! All this from a CD exchange we did earlier this year in the
summer. Amazing things can happen on the internet. This one was thanks
to last.fm. Also looks as though we shall have a song appearing on a
compilation CD as well: appropriately enough it will be titled "Long
Distance Compilation" on the AZYL/Bizarre Republic label. (Interesting
the "bizarre" connection as we've also got another song to come out on a
"Some Bizarre" compilation next year too. hmmm...)
We are excited to finally release a new song. We wrote this one over the summer, it was born from the cowbell pattern we'd originally written for another song. That one kinda ran out of steam and was abandoned. The Bolsheviks was created after Isabelle suggested muting the guitar parts on the other track. Suddenly everything opened up and we had a fresh idea. I was just fooling around with a keyboard line and the melody instantly came out. At that point we both knew the old idea was done and a completely new song idea was in its place.
Lyrically it's an interesting combination between us, with Isabelle handling the refrain and me taking on the bridge. We've played at this kind of thing before but it was a lot of fun to come up with the "Dont" section. Maybe it's my subconscious trying to encapsulate the world of facebook and social media in a song; or maybe not.
Anyway, very pleased to share this today. It feels like a fresh start for Combine the Vic…
Real Life Turns Me On (Kreap Backroom Orgy Mix) the video features our old cats Bob and Ross. The two old sisters passed away last year at almost 18 and a half years of age. As they were relaxing one night on a couple weeks before Bob (the cat on the right) died Isabelle and I took up our camera and filmed them sleeping. These two were a couple excellent little critters, and this remix is awesome! Enjoy.
We recently had the pleasure of having old friend and former Pure bandmate Leigh Grant come into the studio and record drums on new Combine the Victorious songs. It was a near complete Pure reunion that day, as Jordy Birch* was on hand to help with production. The song in the clip below (Come Down) is a track that was co-written with Justin "Juice" Kadis and Misty Reid, we'd started it in 2013 but never completed the recording. As Isabelle and I listened back to it this spring I could hear where live drums could really add a lot of life to the track. Live drums always seem to have that magic. So we asked Leigh to come down to the studio and put down his magic. The section of this clip is the very first time Leigh's putting drums to the song, I love how much energy he adds from the very first cymbal crash.
Thanks again Leigh, sounds amazing! As I was messing with the mix a bit I solo'd his performance and found myself thinking of Pureafunalia, (Pure's fi…
