Without Confliction - animated video

Image
We are pleased to share our latest song Without Confliction from our new Amnesia album. This video was created by our bandmate Daniel Clement, his first foray into the world on animation.  The song is likely the most romantic song Combine the V has ever done, a story about a conflicted assassin who falls in love with his target. It has proven to be quite an epic!

Danser tout le temps Video

Image
We filmed an in studio performance of our next single "Danser tout le temps" with some friends last week. Our good friend and artist Sean McFarland, also know as Jean Vercoe within the painting world, brought out his gear and we played our song a bunch of times in front or our friends. Never ones to stop at the simple of course we set up the lights in a way that I knew would allow me to do some drastic post effects too. Plus we all have strong recollections of the eighties and backlighting was always a cool trick in those days.  Here are a couple  frames I've grabbed while editing. I am very impressed with how good the image is, Sean pulled off a few tricks for us!     Danser tout le temps- video Sean McFarland Danser tout le temps- video Sean McFarland Danser tout le temps - video Sean McFarland We are getting close to done on this video, it will go up on YouTube first!

Official video release; Crazy Story

Image
We are proud to announce our latest single " Crazy Story ," official release date is Sept 14th, 2022 Label: Boutique Empire, catalog number BE22052 The video below was filmed mostly at the Boutique Empire studio here in East Vancouver. There are a few segments that were videod around Vancouver, including a moment of live performance that was captured at the Isabelle Dunlop Clothing store on Main Street this spring.  Thanks to Seam McFarland for his camera work on that.  The rest of the clip features a heavily kaleidoscopic looking piano, the old Baldwin upright I inherited from my dearly departed and always missed friend Todd Simko. That piano took up a big part of the personality of this song and though it is quite a tricky thing to get or keep in tune it is very inspiring! Have a look and please let us know what you think of the song and video. We have been submitting our new singles to radio so if you have the will please try requesting it at a local station that might pla...

VIDEO: Best Tonight ft. Taya Morrow

We are pleased to present the official video for our song Best Tonight , directed by Wayne Hoecherl, and featuring dancer Taya Morrow. Filmed on a cold February evening in an underpass beneath the No. 1 Highway in N. Van, we had a very fun shoot with Wayne and his crew of Dan Kozma and Chris Hooper.   Wayne had a concept to utilize the the underpass which he discovered working on a television series earlier that season.  I think the final result is quite striking.  Big thanks to everyone involved in this project! Glasgow Live at the Fox Cabaret Video

Image
We are both pleased to present our new video of Glasgow being performed live at the Fox Cabaret.  This is a new arrangement and performance our one of our best songs, and both Isabelle and I are rather excited about how well it's all turned out. Filmed originally when we were opening for Sex With Strangers at their CD release party at the Fox Cabaret in Vancouver, Canada, we'd almost forgot we had this footage until about three weeks ago when I refound the folder I'd put everything into.  I think both of us were surprised at how great it looked and I decided it was worth editing together.  This is our live version, it has a different arrangement with new loops and sounds from the Crumbling Hearts version from 2012.   Because we performed this as a duo, I changed a lot of the tracks and made it entirely electronic, with new loops and way more synths!  I think it works as well as the original, with a somewhat dreamier sound and obviously no guitars. Smoke and Choke passes 10K views!

Image
In the excitement of the past couple weeks with our live shows at the Rio Theatre and VALT2013 we almost missed our video Smoke and Choke passing 10 000 views on a music blog site called Totally Fuzzy last week. It's an interesting landmark, ten thousand views, and makes us wonder who is watching our clips, and from where!  You may enjoy all the videos they've collected on the site, click here for check it out . In the mean time, if you haven't seen the Stefan Sigerson directed video yet, please watch it in high definition via  the Boutique Empire Youtube channel.

a Flash Action Films production Smoke and Choke  the video by S.J. Sigerson Directed by Stefan J Sigerson Edited by S.J. Sigerson and Marc Godfrey. We want to express our gratitude to Stefan and Marc for this amazing video.  They have created a completely dystopian future world beset by megalomaniacal super computers, helicopters, blimps and stealth bombers (which I don't remember flying but apparently we did!)  Out best video yet!!  Cheers to Flash Action Films!

Progress Report: Smoke and Choke video

Image
Had a great conversation with Stefan Sigerson at the Vampire Bats ' video shoot last night.  Stefan is a very busy guy these days: director, editor, visionary behind our Smoke and Choke video and concurrently doing the same job on the Vampire Bats' Baby Libertine video as well!  Apparently he's about 75% completed on our clip now: the concept has been solidified, the visuals are almost all rendered and there's a whole lot of helicopters, lightning, dystopian future images and even a robot! Below are some screen captures of from the video that Stefan (and "junior assistant-editor" Marc Godfrey have approved for release).  Getting quite excited to actually view this masterpiece! all images by Stefan Sigerson  Make sure to join us next Thursday, May 30th at the Media Club for its debut along with four songs that will make up part of our next album!  The entire evening is going to be excellent, so dont' miss it!

New Video - Paros

Image
We've been having a stunning summer here in Vancouver and Isabelle and I managed to capture a bit of that sunshine on our latest video.  Paros is a love story that starts in Greece, so we tried to capture the blazing light with this clip.  That, and we were having just too much fun playing around in the heat to notice it was perhaps a tad overexposed! Please enjoy our latest video offering.  We both feel it expresses our love of the Greek isles and our personal desire to get back there soon! download single from http://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/paros/id548384543?i=548385066 or http://combinethevictorious.bandcamp.com/album/paros-single Boutique Empire presents "Paros" by Combine the Victorious video produced by Boutique Empire song produced and performed by Combine the Victorious recorded and mixed by MRH mastered by Clayton Worbeck (Henning, Dunlop, WIld) Drums: Simon Hunt Guitars: Marc Wild Vocals: Isabelle Dunlop Vocals, keyboards, bass: Mark Rol...

New Song! "Glasgow"

Image
9 Apr 2012 We've completed a new song, the first of many!  This one was started by Isabelle while she was in Scotland last summer.  Combine has been performing it live for the past few shows and we're both feeling really proud of both the song and this clip. We shot the footage in our own studio and thru a few creative turns it seems to have really become something unique and evokative. Please have a look, all reports back have been very positive! "Candy Candy" video

27 Apr 2010 We just spent this past weekend shooting a video for the new Guilty About Girls song, Candy Candy .   It's turned out quite well.   Been learning Final Cut Pro; how to edit video.  It's very fun.  Here's the final cut, Jordy and I are both excited about it and I like how great Isabelle looks in this video! Things are getting busy these days.  Between playing shows with Guilty About Girls and Combine the Victorious it's hard to find time to work on new music.  Looking forward to the Seattle show.   Plus CtV is playing our first out of town gig ever on May 22nd in Brandon with The Invisible Men  (home town heartthrobs I'm informed).  Seems as though there are many things on the fire these days.  Exciting times again. I think we may have informally begun our third album.  Strangely compelling titles emerged the other night.  It's probably going to take ...

Embrace (acoustic video)

Image
17 May 2008 Embrace (acoustic version) Hi y'all, Isabelle reckoned we should record an acoustic version of Embrace while it was still hot in our heads. We played this quite a few times while we were over in England and got a bit of a vibe on it, and she thought it would be fun to capture it while it was still fresh. Perhaps you'll agree. Cheers and happy weekend to you all. Mark & Isabelle

Dafty Video (repost)

Image
12 Dec 2006 Video for Dafty Over the last week I've slowly been assembling a video for our song Dafty. It has been a lot of fun but also a fairly monumental undertaking. So far I must be a least 60 hours into it and I've only made it up to the break down. I believe I'm averaging just under one hour of editing per second of video time during the chorus sections. Crazy I know. I must add that I'm blown away with what you can achieve with home computer software. Isabelle bought a new iMac a month ago, and it came bundled with a humble little program called iMovie (which along with iPhoto, iTunes, iChat and our iMac makes a few too many things that start with a lower case "i" and end with a noun or verb in their title). Aside from Apple's penchant to brand all things with an "i", I will say how impressed I am with their software. I confess to being a Mac convert since 1993 so this ain't anything new ok? Howev...
