We are excited to be the headlining act on this evening of music. Gabba Productions has put this lineup together with our pals Rat Silo  (includes former members of seminal band Sons of Freedom) and from Seattle, The Nightcry . After our successful Manitoba tour we are raring to get back on stage and recapture the magic!  Joining us on November 2nd is our friend and conga player Greg Hanberry. He's played a few shows with us in the past year, including the wonderful Rickshaw Theatre show opening for Images In Vogu e, and every time we have him on stage with us the vibes increase tenfold! We have a brand new song to  perform, "Awkward Connector" along with other unreleased songs on the evening. You can get your tickets thru showpass.com Click through for tickets.

Live video from the Rickshaw Theatre

It would be an understatement to say we had a good time at our show last weekend. The show was sold out and the audience was incredible, supportive, appreciative, dancing, singing, cheering! We could not have asked for a better night. Thanks again to Images In Vogue for asking us to be a part of the show and to the wonderful folks at the Rickshaw Theatre for taking care of us.  Here are the final two songs we performed that evening, our latest song Goodbye Bad Times and a favorite of ours to close the show We Are Not Alone.  Please check them out! Next single: Goodbye Bad Times

We are excited to release our next single "goodbye Bad Times".  This is a continuation of our songwriting with Daniel Clement, and I think offers up one of our happiest choruses in ages!   Release date is set for June 7th, 2024,  just a day before we perform as the opening act for Images In Vogue here in Vancouver at the Rickshaw Theatre. Please check your preferred streaming service (or our bandcamp if you would care to support us more directly) next Friday! Listen today on soundcloud or bandcamp .

New Video - New Single: Danser tout le temps

Image
We are extremely happy to release this new single. It reflects the change in sound we've developed since adding Daniel Clement on guitar. Danser tout le temps is a fun exploration into disco, This video is our first collaboration with Vancouver artist Jean Vercoe , who was the camera operator on the night. We invited a handful of friends to come down to the Boutique Empire studio in East Van. to help us film a video for the song. My reasoning was that we'd look better on camera if we were actually playing our instruments and singing rather than just acting, plus having an audience tends to pull a performance out of you. Big thanks to Minna, Phoebe, Shephanie, Cindy, Sean, Mike and Matt for having fun with us.  Video filmed and edited at Boutique Empire Studio Produced by Boutique Empire Camera Operator - Jean Vercoe Directer, editor - Mark R Henning Music produced by Mark R Henning Recorded and mixed at Boutique Empire Studio, Vancouver, Canada Words and music - Combine...

Danser tout le temps Video

Image
We filmed an in studio performance of our next single "Danser tout le temps" with some friends last week. Our good friend and artist Sean McFarland, also know as Jean Vercoe within the painting world, brought out his gear and we played our song a bunch of times in front or our friends. Never ones to stop at the simple of course we set up the lights in a way that I knew would allow me to do some drastic post effects too. Plus we all have strong recollections of the eighties and backlighting was always a cool trick in those days.  Here are a couple  frames I've grabbed while editing. I am very impressed with how good the image is, Sean pulled off a few tricks for us!     Danser tout le temps- video Sean McFarland Danser tout le temps- video Sean McFarland Danser tout le temps - video Sean McFarland We are getting close to done on this video, it will go up on YouTube first!

New single, new video coming soon!

Image
We had a fun night in the Boutique Empire studio on Monday evening, when Sean McFarland (aka Jean Vercoe) took to the camera and filmed us performing live in the studio our new single "Danser Tour le Temps."  In effort to give the video a little more authenticity we actually played our parts to a small group for friends who heard it for the first time. A little bit of dancing and fun was had by all! Tonight Isabelle and I had the chance to have a first look at the footage and cut together a rough edit to start building our next video. It is turning out really well and big thanks to everyone who came out on that rainy Monday night to help us celebrate our new single. Progress is being made, the video is looking good and the song is set for mastering.  We shall be setting the release date very soon! Here's just a quick glance at one of the shots we liked from the video.

We have a gig! Combine at Lana Lou's Dec 1st

Image
After several years off the stage we are now booked to perform as the opener for The Aleatonics album release party December 1st at Lana Lou's .    Isabelle and I are rehearsing for our first show on stage in many years. Joining us is our long time friend Daniel Clement on guitar. We shall be debuting a few brand new songs and of course our latest single " Crazy Story ."  Speaking of Crazy Story, it's a pleasure to announce it has crossed 11 thousand plays on Spotify . The song has been added to a few popular playlists and it seems to be our most popular track to date. We are happy about that!  Our next single Rushes Over Me is about to be mastered and we need to figure out some kind of video for it next.  Many things happening right now and it's all feeling fun again! Thanks for reading, and hope you can make it down to Lana Lou's on Thursday December 1st!

Another single coming

2022 has been a prolific year for us, I think the reality of Isabelle's recent health issue has really put us in the mindset to focus in on what counts. And it seems that music is essential to both of us!  At the start of 2021 I took over the former studio of Ryan Dahle in the East Van Song City building. I spent all my free time last year in the studio working on ideas. We have now been choosing from those songs and finalizing them. We Are Not Alone was the first one we finished because that one was almost the last song we wrote.  Crazy Story was the last song we wrote and it came together almost instantly, however it did take me months to figure out a part and learn how to tune a piano! The next song we're putting out is titled Rushes Over Me and is another from the group of songs we started last year. I pursued a series of trip hop type experiments and really invested into that darker groovy sound. Rushes Over Me started from a field recording of the air conditioni...

New Artwork! Crazy Story

Image
Our dear friend, the always brilliant and affable Robert Edmonds, has created this artwork for our new single "Crazy Story". Crazy Story - Combine the Victorious - Robert Edmonds artwork The artwork was inspired from a random top-of-her-head thought that Isabelle dropped in the middle of telling us a funny story while we sat in front of Cascade in the sunshine having a pint. Rob caught it and came up with this. I can't wait to print t-shirts. Thank you once again Rob Edmonds!! We love it! The single drops on Sept 14th 2022.

Next Gig! June 14th at the Rickshaw

Image
We are excited to announce another live show!  We've been asked to open for The Gathering at their Ep release party down at the Rickshaw Theatre.  What is going to make this even more exciting than usual is the guest musicians that will be joining on stage for this show. We can't announce  anything yet but after a conversation last night with a certain guitarist I am very stoked about this night!! Of course the wonderful Dan Walker is on the drums for us again, so it'll be a full band for first time in almost a decade for Combine the Victorious. Not a show to miss. Plus we'll be playing our new single and the unreleased single we have coming up.  Big love to The Gathering for inviting us to join in the fun. New Videos coming soon!

Image
We are really excited about a couple new videos that are being made concurrently.  One is still being developed and we're hoping we can secure some grant money to finish it, and the other is almost ready for airing.  So, rather than tease you with details about the former (we will admit it's for our song Best Tonight ), we shall let out some information about that latter video: Glasgow (live @FoxCabaret). A few weeks back Isabelle and I were going through some of our new ideas and I came across a folder containing footage from a live show we had performed at the Fox Cabaret .  When we had a look at it we were both really impressed with how great the raw footage was!  Big thanks once again to Benn McGuire and Mike Love for their great camera work, it was a real treat to rediscover it.  We'd performed a short opening set that night, only five songs, and Glasgow was right in the middle of the set.   I was inspired enough to take on the...

Encryption - new electronic instrumental

Image
We present our late addition to the album " Encryption ".   Just finished this one over the weekend and created the cubist video from some cool live footage our friend, the great and creative Stefan Sigerson, shot last March at a live show. This one fills in the gaps between the more pop songs on Autonomous , such as Stop Givin Up On Love and the deeper dance tracks like Stand In Front of Tanks .  Kind of a spy music track.

New Music! Real Life Turns Me On

We are excited to share the first track from the new album " Autonomous " - Real Life Turns Me On .   Started back in 2013, it's a song that has evolved thru several different versions until it arrived at this master. Our good friend Stefan Sigerson was instrumental in bringing this track to life, he was there right at the beginning and played both the bassline, and the disco guitar as well as adding the piano breakdown all on the first night.  It then kind of sat on the hard drives for a while before we revisited it.  At the time we were exploring a different direction but over the course of the year we kept coming back to Real Life and adding things, subtracking others, and finally hit on the robotic vocal effect that runs through out when we figured we had something cool. Sometime in 2013/14 we ran the track past Juice while he was still in Vancouver and playing with us, and he laid down the lead guitar you can hear on the song.   I think it adds a nice counte...

Mixing at Armoury Studios

We are really excited to have just booked time at the amazing sounding Armoury Studio to do our final mixdown.  After the months (years in some cases) we've been working on these songs, it feels thrilling to set a date for completion.   The monitoring in that room is astounding.  John Vrtacic designed the over head sound system and it has possibly the best bottom end I've ever experienced.  Really looking forward to the session. Have to say thanks again to Don Harrison and Stefan Sigerson for their contributions to the songs.  Everything is sounding fantastic! Getting closer to completion.  yes. M
